Italotreno "smart seats". Hello, I'm considering Italotreno for a trip from Venice to Florence and see they have good prices for the economy "smart" seats. However, I've read a few mentions on the forums to avoid these seats as they are uncomfortable. I can easily endure basic accommodations to save 50 euros, (we're a party of three) for a 2.

05/20/13 08:27 AM. 53 posts. I just took trenitalia train from Rome to Florence and Florence to Venice and you can log onto the free wifi on the train. You will have to enter your credit card info in the login page once you're on the train. You will be charged .01 euro (1 cent) for period of 24 hr usage.

All 25 Italo trains have wi-fi, as have all 30 of Trenitalia's Frecciarossa trains and an increasing number of its Frecciargento trains, but not yet all.. Trenitalia's wifi is not strictly free, as you have to purchase your access code by credit card for the enormous sum of €0.01!

It is not true that Italo Treno is cheaper than Trenitalia as a general matter, only on SOME trains on SOME days of the week, depending on schedules and when tickets are purchased. At OTHER times, Trenitalia may be cheaper. Italo Treno does NOT operate out of the central Roma Termini Station.

Useless Wi-Fi, car was over 80F/30C, "first class" was laughable with cramped seats, a single (half) cup of the worst coffee in Italy (or the world) on a 3hr trip, and €20 more than a standard seat on Trenitalia.. We took the Italotreno high speed train from Florence to Rome, bought the tickets at SMN, a very helpful employee helped us buy.

1795 posts. Italotreno is more upscale and probably less crowded and more expensive. Trenitalia is more like a public bus. There are some first class (fresco-rossa - something like that) trains that are very nice from trenitalia. I took the trenitalia (fresco-rosso) train from Venice to Florence, splurged on first class, and enjoyed it.
